AAGW relies on the work of our volunteer committees to accomplish the many things that we do. If you want to get the most out of this organization, what it can do for you personally and professionally, serve on a committee. Your skills can be used for event planning, education, marketing, fundraising, graphic design, advocacy and just about anything else you can think of. The more volunteers we have donating their time and talent, the more programs we can offer our members!
Below is a brief description about each of our committees. If you see a place you'd like to get involved, contact the committee chair.
The AAGW Give Back event is the association's annual effort to help those in our community less fortunate during the holidays. Typically the efforts are focused on helping homeless and displaced children. We coordinate with member properties to request and receive donations from their residents and then compile these donations into give away packages. Donated items can be anywhere from non-perishable food, toiletries, clothes, gloves and kid items. In order to be effective we effort to promote, collect, sort, package as well as actually handing the items away. Volunteers are always welcome at any point of this process and can contact the AAGW office. As an organization we are focused on insuring we take time to be involved and help our metro community. Few things have more impact on our business than the government. Our local Legislative Committee is an arm of the NAA Government Affairs Group. This group works to protect your business and the industry at large. We advocate with NMHC for supportive federal legislation and regulations. We provide research and resources to help affiliates advise local policymakers. And together we mobilize advocates on issues that affect us. Locally we monitor and advocate for our local apartment industry on the state and local levels. We address everything from local ordinances to state legislation that will have any impact on our industry.
This committee also keeps our members informed about what is going on in the legislative world. Watch for information on these issues via email and with our monthly Legislative Newsletter, or through committee reports at meetings.
Maintenance Mania is a competition in which apartment professionals from within the AAGW face maintenance-focused challenges that test their skills and knowledge to earn the title of Maintenance Mania Champion! The fastest times in the region move on to compete in the National Championships at the NAA Apartmentalize conference. Committee members will help plan for the event, schedule a kickoff meeting for competitors, and help make sure everything runs smoothly the day of the event.
NAAPAC is a non-partisan entity that supports Congressional candidates who represent good government and understand the needs and concerns of the apartment housing industry. NAA is prohibited from using general account funds such as membership dues or other revenue to contribute to federal elections. That means NAAPAC is the only vehicle through which NAA and its members may pool their financial resources and participate in the political process. As a committee you will work together to raise funds at events to make our affiliate share goal for the year is met and that the funds are collected with the proper paperwork.
These two committees work together to help bring a variety of training and information to our members. We plan and execute all Membership Meetings and also all Education events hosted by AAGW. We are always looking for people to become involved, with something as easy as being a greeter at a Membership Meeting all the way up to helping us choose and execute our Education events.
Round for Hope
The Round for the Red golf tournament began in 2005 when a member wanted to do something to support the American Red Cross after he saw their compassion for apartment residents when responding to an apartment fire. Fourteen years later and over $250,000 donated it become one of our biggest events of the year. The tournament has now evolved into the Round for Hope as our proceeds now benefit the Center of Hope, a local organization who help prevent homelessness. Volunteers are always needing from planning the event to help on the day of the tournament.
Star of Excellence Awards
This committee works to recognize those who are the Stars of our Industry. This event is hosted bi-annually in January starting with out next event in 2024. We having many sub-committees involved in this event. There is a judging, programs, and decorating committee. You can help in simple ways such as showing up the day of the event to help setup or be involved in the small details, whichever suits your needs, but please come and be a part.
At AAGW we love news being in the loop. This committee drafts and publishes our monthly newsletter to help fill you in on what’s going on in the apartment industry. From new products and promotions, to current events, the AAGW Newsletter has you covered. We also manage our branches Facebook page, Apartment Association of Greater Wichita, updating followers of current and upcoming training seminars, monthly events, and ways to participate in all areas. We are always looking for an extra hand to serve on the committee and help us continue to share information with our community.
Suppliers Council Committees
Each year, the Suppliers Council hosts a party to show appreciation to our apartment member customers. We recognize that apartment members have many vendors to choose from with whom they can do business, and we are very grateful that AAGW members are given preference over non-members.
The Suppliers Council provides a yearly calendar to all AAGW apartment members. This is a convenient way for our members to stay informed about membership meetings and special events. The calendar also puts a Supplier Directory at your fingertips making it easy to find the right company for the services or products you need. The yearly calendar is great marketing opportunity to our Supplier members as well!
Our annual Trade Show is a great way for industry professionals and supplier partners to network, meet new people and learn about new products. Committee members help organize the venue, date, encourage booth space sales and work closely with the Education and Maintenance Mania committees who also hold events on the same day.
